Objective #
The University of Tennessee, Inc. (UTFI) facilitates relationships between the University of Tennessee (UT) and the alumni, friends, corporations, and foundations who support it. Through these relationships, UTFI seeks to secure significant investments to benefit the people, the programs, and mission of UT and UTFI.
Career track provides an opportunity for employees who currently demonstrate exceptional performance to advance. To qualify, the employee must meet specific criteria. These include meeting or exceeding the minimum qualifications for the advanced position and demonstrating that the employee possesses the knowledge, skills, and abilities for the advanced position.
Policy #
UTFI desires to provide for employees to continue to advance their knowledge and skills through a career track program with the following goals and anticipated results.
Goals of the career track: #
- Define the job expectations and requirements.
- Establish and articulate advancement opportunities.
- Establish performance reviews to identify skills and competencies.
Anticipated results of the career track: #
- Enhance the capacity of each employee.
- Reinforce strengths and identifies development opportunites.
- Tracts higher qualified candidates to vacant positions.
- Improves retention and strengthens workforce commitment.
- Develops and better utilizes current staff skills and talents.
- Increases competence, work productivity and efficiency.
- Provides structured individual career choices and increases staff satisfaction.
- Demonstrates visible commitment of UTFI to the advancement of their personnel.
The vice chancellors and UTK Athletics chief development officer, vice presidents, and the CFO, in consultation with the president and CEO, will review, on an annual basis, employees who may be eligible to advance within the career path. Each employee will be evaluated based on the criteria delineated in the appropriate career track document. Should the employee meet or exceed the criteria, they will be considered for advancement. Employees who meet the advancement criteria
may be promoted to the new title with increased salary in accordance with TM0016.2.III Compensation Adjustment or, may be awarded a one-time, non-recurring payment without promotion, depending on specific circumstances.
Scope and Application #
This policy applies to all UTFI employees, including full-time staff, part-time staff, student workers, student interns and temporary staff for the organization.
Policy Implementation #
The UTFI Office of Talent Management (UTFI TM) will serve as the central point for all career track plans. Requests for consideration of a career path must be submitted via the Career Track Request & Submission Form.
Penalties/Disciplinary Action for Non-Compliance #
Violations of the policy and any subsections herein may be cause for disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.
