Inclement Weather

Policy #

Employees of The University of Tennessee Foundation (UTFI) work in various offices located on all of The University of Tennessee (UT) campuses throughout the State of Tennessee as well as other offices not located on UT campuses.  Each UT campus maintains an inclement weather policy that takes into account local weather and related conditions in determining whether the campus will close, operate on a delayed opening or remain open during inclement weather.  Each UTFI office will operate pursuant to the inclement weather decision made on the campus where the office is located.  For example, if UT Martin closes due to inclement weather, then all UTFI offices located on the Martin campus will also close.

The official UTFI office at 1525 University Avenue, Knoxville, TN, is subject to the UT Knoxville inclement weather policy and will operate pursuant to the inclement weather decision made by the UT Knoxville campus.

In UTFI offices not connected with a UT campus (e.g., offices of the development officers stationed in Atlanta and Nashville), the senior UTFI employee at each location shall make inclement weather decisions in light of local conditions at those offices.

In the event of inclement weather when the UT campus remains open, all UTFI employees are expected to make every reasonable effort to maintain their regular work schedules, but are advised to avoid undue risks in traveling. As environment and job responsibilities allow, employees may work remotely on an as needed basis with supervisor approval during inclement weather events.  Employees who anticipate arriving late or not arriving at work at all should notify their immediate supervisors. Employees have the option of charging their time off to annual leave or leave without pay, or, with approval, they may make up their lost work hours.
