University of Tennessee Foundation, UT Knoxville Name Brian Broyles Senior Vice Chancellor for Advancement for the Flagship Campus

KNOXVILLE, TN – The University of Tennessee Foundation (UTFI) and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville are pleased to announce the appointment of Brian Broyles as the senior vice chancellor for advancement for UT Knoxville, a position of pivotal importance in advancing the university’s mission and strategic vision.

Broyles, who has served as the interim vice chancellor for advancement since July, brings a track record of leadership and excellence in fundraising to this position. His advancement career started in annual giving, and through his consistent success, rose to his most recent position as associate vice chancellor for advancement at UT Knoxville. Broyles provided leadership and managerial support for three major academic units, including the Haslam College of Business, Tickle College of Engineering and the College of Arts and Sciences.

“Brian’s exceptional record of success through every stage of his career speaks volumes about his leadership acumen and dedication,” said UT Foundation President Kerry Witcher. “His passion for leading others and commitment to advancing the university align perfectly with our vision for the future, and I am thrilled to have him serving in this role.”

Broyles will oversee the advancement team at UT Knoxville, which includes philanthropic initiatives and alumni engagement. In fiscal year 2023, UT Knoxville had over 67,320 alumni, supporters and friends pledge their support for the university, setting a record for number of donors and raising more than $264 million in contributions. These achievements come at a time when the university has had a banner year in enrollment and retention, research expenditures and awards, state support, student success and alumni engagement.

“Brian embodies the Volunteer spirit in his leadership and in the support he generates for our students and university,” said UT Knoxville Chancellor Donde Plowman. “His expertise and positive energy have been transformational as the interim vice chancellor for advancement, and I am excited for him to continue that momentum as a permanent member of my cabinet.”

As senior vice chancellor for advancement, Broyles will oversee the public launch and execution of the It Takes a Volunteer Campaign to raise funds to support UT Knoxville’s growing, thriving campus and greater access for Tennesseans.

Broyles is poised to play a key role in nurturing philanthropic and alumni relationships, thereby strengthening the flagship’s mission and expanding its influence.
